Explain two methods of reducing underside damage when sawing 10mm thick plywood sheets using a circular sawing machine.
(a) Placing a thin sheet of plywood, hardboard or MDF under the sheet will act as a chip breaker and prevent spelching on the underside as the saw cuts through.
(b) Using a dimension saw with a small scribing saw. The purpose of the small anticlockwise scribing saw is to cut the face before the sheet come into contact with the main cutting saw.
Lowering the saw blade in the Saw Table or raising the Saw Table has the effect of reducing the angle that the teeth penetrate into the timber and when cutting delicate materials such as ply wood help stop speltching
