Web Books

 The Web Book

A website, both teachers and students can create, is the basis of a web book.  The website is considered as the “framework” of the online storybook.  The first order of business in the creation of a web book, then, is creating the blank canvas, or website, it will be published on.   Ideally, teachers and students can create free websites such as a free Google Sites website. Follow the following steps to create a free Google website.

Formatting a Web Book

A web book has a unique format and sequence to it. This format dictates the lay-out of the website.  The lay-out includes “pages of a book” created on the web pages of the website itself.  Each page of the website contains a mixture of textual, visual, and/or audio files.  The specific format for a Web Book is as follows:

1)  Title page as the main page of the website.

              Title

              Author (s)

2)  Introduction and the purpose for the story

Introduction or purpose of the story.

              Why was the story written?

What key concepts or skills is mastered in the story?

3)Each page of the website may represent a page of the story.  Each web page must contain a heading to describe the next event in the story.

      Each web page may contain:

     a)  text

     b)  videos or movies

     c)  photos or images

     d)  music, audio recordings, podcast

     e)  flash or other animations

4)  Acknowledgements

*Each page of the website should be included in the navigation bar, appearing at the top or left hand-side of the website for

easy access by its users.  This navigation bar will serve to let the readers know the contents of the story.  No special “Contents Page” is needed.
