Blogs

Blogs are an excellent way to post questions and curiosities onto the web for your students to ponder and respond to.  Students are able to practicing and strengthening both their critical thinking and written communication skills.  Using them blogs in the curriculum as warm-ups and journal responses are examples of this.  Another useful way for teachers to use blogs is to check for understanding.  Questions on about the standards-based lesson can be posted on a blog, and students can demonstrate their understanding and mastery of what they have learned previously.  It is a good “pulse-check” to evaluate where they are in their learning.  Blogs have a variety of purposes in the educational forum.  They can also be used to survey or poll individuals and post current events, news, images, music, videos, or links to other websites.
