Mulholland Middle School, the school for which I work, is a mosaic of technology saavy teachers who integrate technology into their curriculums on a daily basis. Our Principal's vision is one that prepares our students as global learners by teaching them 21st Century skills. Our students are taught how to use computer applications such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Inspiration and email on Macbook laptop computers. Some fortunate classes will be ordered i Pads and i Touches for learning purposes. Some of students have been taught to use digital cameras to take pictures and make iMovies and Powerpoints about what they have learned.
Technology is a great tool, the teacher's instruction is the most important piece to the success of the learner. Without a strong standards-based curriculum and the use of effective research-based strategies and scaffolding to deliver this curriculum and build on students prior knowledge, learning can not be nurtured.
