2013 QOF data - diabetes

1. ENGLAND

1.1 Engand Adults

The latest England QOF (Quality and Outcomes Framework) data was published on 29 October 2013 and covers the period of April 2012 to March 2013: Quality and Outcomes Framework - 2012-13 (QOF 2012-2013) - on that page is a series of files and zipped folders in the first section, called Resources.

When unzipped the 6th item in the list, called "Quality and Outcomes Framework - 2012-13: England level [.zip]" will produce several subfolders including a 'Prevalence' one which houses a single file (qof-12-13-data-tab-eng-prev.xlsx) that contains the England prevalence data for each of the 'clinical indicators' (ie diseases or conditions).

The relevant figure for diabetes is in cell C39 - there are 2,703,044 people over age of 17, in England, with diabetes ("However it should be noted that the diabetes register was expanded from April 2012 to include all types of diabetes (except gestational diabetes), having previously only included patients with type 1 or type 2 diabetes." page p24 of 38 of Quality and Outcomes Framework - 2012-13: Report [.pdf], which is the first Resources file in the (QOF 2012-2013) page linked above). Data below comes from cells M15-N18.

1.2 English regions - adults

The 7th item in the QOF 2012-2013 list is Quality and Outcomes Framework - 2012-13: Region level [.zip] and when unzipped it produces several folders including a Prevalence one. That has a single file in it, called qof-12-13-data-tab-reg-prev.xlsx - there are two tabs in this spreadsheet, make sure you look in the second one (Region_AgeSpecificPrevalence) which has age-specific data (diabetes is only counted for people aged 17 and over).
