Benjamin Parsons Mills was born Feb. 9, 1817. He married Betsey Shockley (probably in Maryland between 1840-1843, possibly in Worcester Co.).

Their son John was born in Maryland in 1843, their son George was born in Maryland in 1846 and their daughter Elizabeth was born in Maryland in 1848. Benjamin & Elizabeth Mills moved their family from Maryland to Iowa after the birth of their daughter Elizabeth (June 4, 1848) and before the 1850 U.S. Federal Census enumerated them in Van Buren Co., Iowa on Oct. 14, 1850.

The family moved to Indiana after son William's birth in Iowa on August 6, 1851 and before the birth of son Frank on February 12, 1854. They settled at Milan, Franklin Twp., Ripley Co. where they were enumerated on the 1860 Census. (There was also a Shockley family from Maryland in Ripley Co. who may have been related to Elisabeth. She would later be buried in the Shockley cemetery as were some of the other family members).

Elisabeth Shockley Mills died October 22, 1886, age 68 years. Her gravemarker in the Shockley Cemetery reads: "17 Jan 1818-11 Oct 1886, wife of Benjamin Mills". There are several Shockley families in the area who came from MD who are likely related to Elizabeth Shockley Mills.

"OBITUARY --
Edward Everett Mills, son of Benjamin and Elizabeth Mills, was born March 8, 1861 at Milam, Ind., and departed this life May 27 at the age of 86 years, 2 months and 19 days.
On July 3, 1881 he was united in marriage to Miss Alice Huffman. To this union were born eight children, three of which and the companion have preceded him in death.
After living only a short time in Milam, he and his bride moved to Robinson where they spent almost all their married life.
He is survived by five children. Harry of Duncanville, Mrs. Goldie King of Olney, George of Whittier, Calif., Walter of Robinson, and Mrs. Bessie Hollingsworth of Houston, Texas, thirteen grandchildren, Edward and Kenneth Mills and lillian Bennett [Dean] of California, Clarence and Frank Adams of Texas, Richard and Deloris Mills of Duncanville, Howard, Lulu Belle and Billy King, Helen Green and Mabel York, all of Olney and Harold King of Robinson. Two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Effie Mills of Whittier, Calif., and Mrs. Anna Mills of Duncanville, two sons-in-law, Walter Hollingsworth of Houston, Texas, and Homer King of Olney. Also surviving are sixteen great grandchildren, besides many acquaintances and a host of friends...."

ROBINSON - Anna Legg Mills, 100, of Robinson, IL, died at 1:50 a.m. Monday, May 31, 2011 at the Cotillion Ridge Nursing Home, Robinson.
She was born August 21, 1910 the daughter of Alonzo Legg and Martha Crum Legg. She married Harry O. Mills on October 19, 1929, living most of her married life east of Duncanville. Anna was a homemaker and attended the Duncanville Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son, Richard Mills and his wife, Rebecca, Winder, GA; a daughter, Deloris Dedrick and her husband, Robert (Red), Robinson; two sisters, Edna Ganzer, DeKalb, IL and Naomi Walling, Banning, CA; 9 grandchildren, Mike and Diana Dedrick, Springfield, IL, Karen and Steve Pifer, Palestine, DiAnna McNair, Robinson, Sheila and Hugh Brisco, Winder, GA, Cindy and Tony Cassidy, Bethlehem, GA, Doug and Shirley Mills, Peachtree, GA, David and Lora Mills, Goosecreek, GA, Julie and Tom Woodruff, Falmouth, MA, Susan and Jack Norton, Scarborough, MA: 17 great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Harry O. Mills; her parents; her step-father, Walter Moade; a sister, Dortha Ewing; two brothers, Guy Legg and Clarence Legg; and her great granddaughter, Elizabeth Mills.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 2nd at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson with Rev. Jeff Monroney officiating.
Burial will be in the Port Jackson Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, prior to services. Memorials may be made to the Duncanville Baptist Church with envelopes available at the funeral home. Obituary written by family members.
