Description

Design Management for the DOE’s Radiological Lab/Utility/Office Building (RLUOB), which will house radiological laboratory space, a training center, four classrooms, two non-radiological training simulation labs, a central utility building that supports all adjacent facilities, and office space to support personnel in segregated cleared (limited) and un-cleared areas. An Entrance Control Facility will connect via a tunnel from the RLUOB to an adjacent Nuclear Facility. The RLUOB also will have a Facility Incident Command Center, an operations center, and space for future support of the existing Plutonium Facility.

Design – October 2005 December 2006; Construction – February 2007 through December 2008

Statistics

• Maximum occupancy of 350 personnel
• 200,000 SF four story building with joined Radiological Lab, Central Utility Building, and Office Areas
• Building to be “Silver” certified in LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design)
• Design and Construction to be completed under strict NQA-1-2000 Quality Assurance Requirements for nuclear facilities
• Unique mechanical systems include radiological liquid waste lines, wet/dry vacuum and specialty gas distribution systems, a “de-ionized” water plant, and massive airborne radiation filtration systems

• Supervised development, deployment and maintenance of training program on NQA-1-2000 quality assurance procedures for 65+ design personnel
• Developed and maintained cost loaded project design schedule for 450 individual design tasks
• Managed request for proposal process across five individual design disciplines and three subcontracted consultants
• Developed and managed four individual discipline Earned Value Schedules to monitor budget and schedule progress
• Produced and implemented cost loaded milestone schedule to monitor progress of design deliverables – 61 of 65 milestones met or improved upon
