A grouping that is full of some more challenging ascents (see this grouping of accident reports), the San Juan fourteeners offer the avid peak bagger a series of unique climbs. One's ascent usually doesn't require technical gear to successfully summit any of the peaks during optimal climbing season, though all of the routes demand at least an intermediate level of experience. Additionally, one's eye should always be on the weather as thunderstorms and even snow squalls play a factor almost every day in this area.
