Located a mere 36 miles from Denver, these peaks are extraordinarily popular. Adding to Evans' popularity is the Mount Evans Scenic Byway, which is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day each year.
Evans is characterized by gently rising slopes broken up by a series of cliff bands. These features allow for several routes of varying difficulty and length (Gerry Roach lists 12 routes for Evans alone).
Just 1.4 miles west of Evans, Bierstadt is one of the easiest fourteeners to summit - in a variety of seasons. This makes the peak popular for those wanting to test out their winter mountaineering skills and for those wanting to get a head start in the spring months.
Mount Evans - 14,264 ft. Mount Bierstadt - 14,060 ft.
