Break Down the Guide

How I break down my guide into daily assignments

NEW - I have my filled out semester one planner here - https://www.dropbox.com/home/henle%20latin/Challenge%20A%20specific/Challenge%20A%20Planner

Planner - Write it down into 4 separate days on paper, notebook, planner, etc. I use this one but really any ole planner will do and there also some great checklists on CC Connected. One year we took legal size paper and divided into 6 sections and hung it on the wall so my son could see it all week,

Latin - Common guidelines are 20 min vocab, 20 min grammar/charts, 20 min exercises ( I also have a Latin daily assignments document on the Challenge A Familes 2019-2020 files section. I based it on the suggestions by the Workspace)

Reading - I always assign ALL the reading on day 1

Grammar/Charts - This would be when you would copy the grammar rules onto paper/spiral notebook or in your Latin Workspace. Copying declensions could be done on paper, Latin Workspace. Family Style Homeschooling personal Latin dictionary is also great. I try to stack as many of these on day 1 and 2 as I can because they are frequently needed for exercises.

Vocabulary - look up the page numbers that are in the reading that have vocab words on them and divide them among 4 days. Again, I try to stack these assignments towards the front of the week. Also write in "REVIEW" on the planner to remind your student that they need to review cards and not just make new ones!

Exercises - Look at the number of exercises assigned and divide them among 4 days. When they start getting longer, you might need to look at each number and space accordingly. If you have days with other activities, then you might want to have less exercises on those days.

Analogies - This one is easy because they are divided into the days already for us. Yea!

Research

Day 1 - Choose topic and find two sources and read them. Because I don't hit up the library much, I always use online sources. If you want to use books from the library, either plan on going day 1 or look ahead and get your student to pick topics in advance and then get the books in advance.

Day 2: Two key word outlines on sources and fused outline.

Day 3: Sketch and bibliography. My student wants to write it out in a paragraph for the presentation so he will do it on this day. But our director has said a paper is not required.

Day 4: Practice presentation.

Lost Tools of Writing

Every week will be different so I would just break down the assignments into 4 separate days. On paper weeks, I made sure that only typing and final edits were assigned to day 4.

Here is my week 2:

Day 1: Watch LTW video, compose issue, read book

Day 2: ANI Chart, read book

Day 3: ANI Chart, read book

Day 4: read book

For the reading of the books, I would take the 3 weeks and I would divide the number of pages by 3 weeks. If by Friday evening, he was done with the "Week 1" # of pages or had a manageable amount left for Monday, then he got the weekend off! If not, he had to do some weekend reading! No saving 200 pages all for week 3!

Cartgraphy

Day 1: Draw the week's area

Day 2: Draw the week's area and do Cartography reading

Day 3: Draw the week's area and work on Geo terms

Day 4: Draw the week's area and work on any unfinished Geo terms and Cartography reading

Any day that has extra time, we watch a Geography Now video on You Tube.

Math

In our planner, I just put the math lessons or tests that are coming up from our curriculum And add "Pick a problem" for class on one of the days and double check with him on day 4 to make sure it gets done.
