This emblem was designed by an ethnic Yi Chinese designer. Yi lacquerware has long been well-known for its high technique and art. It was recorded in Chinese documents as early as in Song dynasty. The shapes of Yi lacquerwares are unique and varied. Ornamental paintings on these lacquerwares are brilliant and breathtaking. In Qing dynasty, many lacquer painting skills or techniques were officially recorded as "qianqi" (inlaid lacquer painting, 嵌漆), "miaoshi"(painted decoration, 描饰), "zhaoming"(covered with transparent lacquer, 罩明), "jinran"(painted with golden lacquer, 金染) and "yinhua" (gleaming lacquer painting, 隐花). The wine bottle in ellipse shape is one of the best lacquerware. The image at the center is a sun shedding off light. Around the wine bottle is flame. Yi people worship fire. The Torch Festival is their traditional festival. The Yi emblem signifies fortune, sublime, and happy life.
