2016 OLSD Operating Levy

Post date: Feb 4, 2016 3:05:19 AM

Good day,

As you may be aware, March 15th is a very important day for the

Olentangy community. Olentangy will have a critical issue on the ballot,

which includes voter approval to build a 4th high school, additional

operating funds and establishment of a permanent improvement fund for

facility repair and maintenance of our 25 existing buildings.

The district’s last operating levy request was in May 2011. Since then, we

have added approximately 3,200 new students, without a corresponding

revenue increase. Despite valiant efforts to increase our state funding, we

receive the second lowest per-pupil funding in the state. Even with those

challenges, however, Olentangy has succeeded in staying off the ballot for

5 years – 2 years longer than promised – due to significant cost-saving

measures, efficiencies and partnerships.

Please note that I am not asking for any endorsement, either for or against

the ballot issue. I am simply asking that you forward the attached

informational brochure to your homeowners. This document was prepared

by the Olentangy for Kids Committee and was fact-checked by district

personnel. It provides important information that voters may need in

assessing their vote.

I, or one of my fellow board members, would be happy to meet with your

association board or full membership. We would be pleased to discuss the

levy request, answer questions and take any comments.

Thank you for your consideration.

Dave King

President, Olentangy Board of Education
