When I start a project like this, I always ask myself...why did I put in so many things that are so detailed and so difficult to paint? 40 pearls, lace, and sheer fabrics are all a challange? I'm just a glutton for punishment I guess.
I've been working on the 36" x 24" oil painting on canvas of two very different woman for quite a while. At this stage, it has only one layer of paint. It will require many more layers of paint and glaze before it's completed.
I took a photo of a girl in period dress at a historic site during a Plein Aire painting session. Though she had a very pretty face, I did a drawing showing only her torso because I found the contrast of her tiny waist and the huge skirt interesting. In the photo shown she is in a slightly different pose.
I did a full size drawing and transferred it to the canvas. The painting shown has one layer of paint over parts of the 36" x 24" canvas. I have changed the color of the dress from yellow to blue (artistic license) and I added the poppies in her hand though I'm not sure I like them and may take them out.
