Claire and Frank Struggle to make their Relationship Work
Meanwhile, in the 18th century, The Battle of Culloden has finally come to pass. Jamie fought alongside many clansmen after saying goodbye to Claire as she went back through the stones to her own time. He fought fiercely and faced Black Jack Randall in a long and grueling fight that left Randall dead and Jamie near-death. After being saved by Rupert, the surviving clansmen are discovered by the British and sentenced to death. Thankfully, Lord Hal Melton pardons Jamie as Melton’s brother, John Grey, offered a debt to Jamie and it has to be honoured. At Ardsmuir prison, he befriends the governor Lord John Grey, who later makes sexual advances (both men and women are drawn to Jamie) but unlike Black Jack, he understands consent and doesn't press the issue and they actually become friends and he paroles him to work at an English estate. There Jamie is manipulated into a sexual liaison and fathers an illegitimate son, William. Jamie returns to Scotland and becomes a printer and Lord John Grey takes the child. Jamie suffers from the aftermath of his doomed last stand at the historic Battle of Culloden, as well as the loss of Claire. As the years pass, Jamie and Claire attempt to make a life apart from one another, each haunted by the memory of their lost love.

Claire discovers that Jamie did not die at Culloden, and vows to return to him. The budding possibility that Claire can return to Jamie in the past breathes new hope into Claire's heart... as well as new doubt. As always, adversity, mystery, and adventure await them on the path to reunion. And the question remains: when they find each other, will they be the same people who parted at the standing stones, all those years ago?

Jamie and Claire follow. Geillis (who had escaped burning at the stake in season 1) bathes in blood and seduces young Ian. They manages to rescue him from Geillis and kill her.
