Summerleaze Beach at Bude provides an opportunity for students to study folded sandstones and shales from the Bude Formation, deposited in the Westphalian (Upper Carboniferous). The section from the seawater swimming pool to the lifeguard observation post includes a syncline, an anticline, variations in the percentage of shale, ripple marks, load casts, normal and reverse faults, as well as a tear fault in teh wave-cut platform.
