Cligga Head

Carpebble-logo

Cligga Head consists of a granite pluton, quarry and metamorphic aureole located between Perranporth and St Agnes. We visit with year 10 GCSE geologists, one group parking at Cligga Head and walking to Droskyn Point in Perranporth, another group walking in the opposite direction, exchanging minibus keys at the midpoint of the walk.

Highlights of the trip include the mine workings visible along the coast towards St Agnes, greissen bands in the quarry, a quartz porphry dyke, chiastolite hornfels, spotted rock, quartz, chalcopyrite and iron pyrite in spoil heaps. There is a short adit which is accessible from the cliff path and various coastal landforms including a blow hole, caves, arch, stacks, islands, wave cut platform and wind-blown sand at Perranporth, visible from Droskyn Point.
