Transpiration Lab:
There were two plants: one with the plastic bag, one without. This assignment is not as detailed as a regular lab report, but I am asking for all the parts that make up a lab report. I would say that students write about one to two paragraphs for the analysis and conclusion.
Students should come up with their own question and hypothesis.
Variables:
Control: time of day, same amount of sunlight, same amount of water
Independent: plant with plastic bag
Dependent: amount of water droplets produced within a forty/fifty minute time period
Constants: same type of flowering plants used.
Materials: two flowering vascular plants, water, one plastic bag, twisty tie, sunlight.
Procedures:
1.) place the bag over the plant.
2.) tie off the bottom of bag with a twisty at the base of the plant stem (not around the pot).
3.) water both plants.
4.) put both plants in a sunny location for a 40 to 50 minute period.
5.) observe both plants.
For the analysis, students should explain what they observed, where the water droplets came from, why there are water droplets, how the water droplets are connected to photosynthesis, why this experiment is important for all animals and humans... Students should include two pictures: before and after the experiment (plant with bag over it).
For conclusion, restate the hypothesis, tell of what you learned, explain how the experiment relates to what we are studying in class.
Follow the same Lab Report structure:
Question, Hypothesis, Variables, Constants, Materials, Procedures, Analysis, (Pictures –before and after), Conclusion.
