This information is found also in your textbook, page 31 under Quick Lab. Please ask your parents to help you with this assignment.
You will create TWO cell models - one PLANT CELL and one ANIMAL CELL. This assignment will take some time, so please do not wait until late Tuesday night!
Materials:
Two zip-lock/resealable bags
One clear container
Two packs of Jello (gelatin) - preferably two different colors - This must be made!!!
Items to put inside the Jello - food items
Procedures:
- Make a Model: Put one plastic bag in the clear container. This is your plant cell. The other plastic bag is your animal cell.
- Make the Jello by pouring the gelatin in a container of hot water (follow directions on box). Stir until all gelatin disolves.
- Using a spoon, carefully put gelatin in both bags until the bags are almost full - this should still be in liquid form - (BE CAREFULL!! LIQUID IS HOT!!!)
- Pick vegetables that look the most like the plant and animal organelles (use pages 28 and 30 of your textbook to help you).
- Place vegetables that you have picked into the appropriate bags and seal them.
- Place sealed bags in refrigerator.
- DO NOT FORGET YOUR MODELS ON WEDNESDAY!!! THEY ARE DUE FIRST THING WEDNESDAY MORNING AND WILL BE GRADED BY YOUR HOMEROOM TEACHER!!!
On Wednesday:
You will be asked to bring in your models to your homeroom on Wednesday. Your homeroom teacher will ask you questions about your models. Make sure that you can:
- Identify ALL organelles in EACH model.
- Tell what EACH organelle does in the plant/animal cell.
