The Three Levels:
Level 1: These questions can be answered with yes, no, or specific information found in the text. A person can point to the information, read it, or physically see it.
Level 1 Examples:
Define the different organ systems found in the human body.
What functions do body systems perform?
Level 2: These questions require students to expand what they already know by using facts, details, or clues.
Level 2 Examples:
Compare and contrast the different organ systems found in the human body. What are the similarities and differences found in each body system?
What is the sequence in which blood travels through the circulatory system, beginning with the heart, and ending in the lungs?
Level 3: These questions require students to reflect on their thinking and be able to respond with a personal opinion that is supported by facts. The student makes a value judgment or wonders about something.
Level 3 Examples:
Hypothesize what would happen to a person’s cells if the human lungs only took in carbon dioxide. Prove your answer with support.
Justify why it is important to eat food from all of the food groups.
