The Youth & Family Resource Center (YFRC) is working with school district officials and community partners to bring a series of parent workshops tailored specifically to the interests, needs and requests of parents of Bret Harte parents, to our school. These workshops will be a fun, relaxing time for parents and caregivers to connect, share and receive important information that will help them support their students, their family and their school community.Parent Power Hour workshops will be held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month, from 5pm to 6pm in the Cafeteria, and will include snacks and playcare. These workshops will feature a new speaker (or panel of speakers) each month, on topics ranging from parent educational rights, to family health.
February's Parent Power Hour will feature a presentation called "Bullying 101 for Parents and Caregivers," by Jessica Wharton, former Bret Harte Healthy Start Coordinator and now SCUSD Bully Prevention Specialist. Ms. Wharton will provide parents with an important overview of current trends in bullying, SCUSD bullying policies and procedures, and special tips on how parents and caregivers can protect their children from the pain of bullying.
Also at February's Parent Power Hour, participants will be given an opportunity to help choose future topics and speakers.
For more information on this workshop series, please contact YFRC Coordinator Liz Sterba at 916-277-7070, or elizabeth-sterba@scusd.edu.
We look forward to seeing you there!
