Semester 2 Project Guidelines and Timeline

2018-2019 Semester 2 Project Guideline and Timeline

Statistics – Brandt

Overview:

You will be analyzing data that is provided by a local researcher.  This data is real data collected by real people for real projects.  Your analysis will use methods that are statistically appropriate for the situation.  Upon completion of the analysis, you will write a report back to the provider of the data describing the results of your analysis.  You will also present your findings to the class.

Analysis:

Each set of data is unique and will require specialized analysis.  However, most of the data sets will require one, or more, of the following techniques:

o   multiple regression analysis

o   linear regression analysis

o   comparison of two populations (either proportions or means)

o   side by side boxplots

o   observing trends over time

o   confidence intervals

Report:

Your report shall include (but not be limited to) to following sections:

o   Introduction and Purpose – a brief introduction of the study and what the study is trying to determine.

o   Results and Discussion

o   Analysis - What analyses did you do, why did you do it

o   Results - what were the results

o   Discussion - what does it mean, in non-statistician terms.

o   Conclusion

Presentation to the Class:

You will present your project to the class.
