Opening ActivStats From a School District Computer
ActivStats and Newer Mac Computers
For those who have Mac computers running the Lion (10.7), Mountain Lion (10.8), or Mavericks (10.9) operating systems, you may not be able to use the ActivStats dvd as is. Here is a link the the textbook's website that may help you make this work:
Download and Access ActivStats on Your Computer
Before you insert the dvd:
• go to Computer or My Computer
• double click on your hard drive to open it
• create a new folder called ActivStats and open it (it will be empty)
Insert the dvd
In AutoPlay window:
• click on Open folder to view files
• highlight and drag all of the files and folders from the dvd to your hard drive (you will need about 1.8 GB of available space on your drive)
o depending on your computer, this could take 30 minutes
The first time you try ActivStats:
• click on Setup.exe
• double click Yes if the computer asks you if you want this program to make changes to your computer.
• click Launch ActivStats
• choose New student file (step 4. of folder)
• in step 1, choose for Data Desk
• in step 2, choose Bock, Velleman, and DeVeaux, Stats:Modeling the World, 3rd ed.
• in step 3, enter your Name and the Student Access Code (in the Serial No. line).
• click OK
• tell ActivStats where to save the file (yourname).axs on your computer
• close ActivStats, remove the dvd and try to reopen ActivStats to confirm that the program loaded correctly.
Open ActivStats:
• open the ActivStats folder on your hard drive
• click on ActivStats.exe
• click on Open student file
• choose the student file that you created above.
