When grading and preparing for class allow, I like to participate in a lot of different activities outside of school.
Music:
I sing, compose instrumental and choral music and play handbells and alto and tenor saxophone.
I have been a member of the Palouse Choral Society (formerly the Idaho Washington Concert Chorale) since 1989. I am also the Tenor Section Leader. Click here to link to the PCS website to see what we are currently up to.
My wife and I were the Music Directors for our church, Emmanuel Lutheran Church, for 11 years.
Backpacking and Camping:
My wife Liz and I love to camp and backpack. While we were on sabbatical during the 2012-2013 school year, we walked the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage trail across northern Spain. The Camino Frances is an 800 km (500 miles) trail that is the oldest Catholic pilgrimage in continuous use in Europe except for the one to Rome. During June 2015, we walked the Camino Primitivo. This is the original (primativo) Camino traveled by the king of Asturias, King Alfonso the Chaste, when he went to certify the remains of Saint James in 813 A.D. Following our walk, we were the hospitaleros at Refugio Gaucelmo in Rabanal del Camino along the Camino Frances from June 30 through July 15. In 2016, we walked 4 stages of the Camino Real in Southern California. This Camino links the 22 Spanish missions established in what is now California. Recently, in July 2017, we walked the Hærvejen trail in Denamrk and followed that with working at Gaucelmo again.

We are members of the Confraternity of St. James based in London, U.K. Click here for a link to their site which has a lot of great information about the Camino. We are also members of the American Pilgrims on the Camino. Click here for a link to their site.
Curling:
I have been curling since 2009 and am a member of the Palouse Curling Club. If you have ever wondered about curling, now is your chance to find out more about it! Click here for a link the the PCC website. We would love to have you join us! (That's my wife Liz and me curling at the Palouse Ice Rink.)
