General Class Information
SUPPLIES:
• 3-ring Notebook OR Spiral Binder plus a folder for handouts
• PENCILS (Please, do NOT use a pen.)
• Your own calculator. I strongly urge that you have, and know how to use, your own calculator. There are some calculators that can be used in class hanging on the classroom wall in the Calculator Caddy.
• It will help if you know how to use a computer spreadsheet program such as EXCEL. We will be learning the basics of EXCEL during the class.
EXPECTATIONS:
• Be on time for every class. You should be ready to start when the bell rings and class does not end until the final bell rings.
• Be prepared for every class by bringing your supplies, finished work and your brain!
• Be respectful to yourself and to others in the classroom. Please do not disrupt the class or intimidate, put down or make fun of others.
• No food, drinks (other than water), toys, sunglasses, hats or hoods.
• No electronic devices (other than calculators) may be used at any time per school policy.
• Scratch paper will be provided. Please do not write on the desks.
ASSIGNMENTS:
• All assignments are due when called for unless prior arrangements are made.
• “Unannounced” quizzes may be used to assess progress in lieu of grading homework.
• Homework is expected to be completed in a timely fashion. Your homework should be completed in your notebook. While homework will be checked in class, you will not be turning it in.
• Some assignments will be submitted electronically through Edmodo.com.
TESTS AND QUIZZES:
• We will be using Concept-based grading for Business Math. Generally, we will have a Concept Quiz every two weeks, or so. There will also be a semester final at the end of each semester. Unless otherwise stated in advance, it is expected that all tests and quizzes will be completed during the class period. Should any additional time be granted, that time will ONLY be available immediately after school the same day.
ABSENCES:
• Students are responsible for determining what was missed during an absence. Assignments will be posted on the board for the chapter/week and at other places such as this website, as available. Notes are to be copied from a classmate. Electronic copies of each lesson will be sent to all students through Edmodo.com.
• The expectation is that assignments missed for an excused absence are due the day that the student returns to school. Unexcused absences will be handled per the Student Handbook.
• If you miss a quiz and would like to make it up, it is expected that you will take the quiz during the NEXT available Access Period.
GRADES (varies slightly between semester 1 and 2):
• A = 100-90% B = 89-80% C = 79-70% D = 69-60% F = 59-0%
Percent of Semester Grade:
Concept Quizzes: ~60%
Homework/Notes: ~20%
Classwork: ~10%
Project (Sem. 2): ~10%
The following table indicates what an individual score represents:
10 The student determines the correct answer using the correct reasoning/concept.
9 The student makes a minor mistake but the reasoning/concept is correct.
7-8 The answer is wrong and there is a flaw in the reasoning/concept.
6 There are significant flaws in the reasoning/concept.
1-5 There is little to no evidence the student understands how to solve this problem.
0 No work is attempted.

• I am usually available for extra help before and after school and during lunch.
