As you may already know, the Statistics class at Moscow High School is now being offered as a Dual-credit course with the University of Idaho. The associated class at the university is STAT 251 – Statistical Methods. This is a tremendous opportunity for our high school students.
There is a lot of useful information on the University of Idaho's Dual Credit web site. You can access this web site at the following link:
http://dualcredit.uidaho.edu/students/
In an attempt to summarize this information and to answer some of your frequently asked questions, I have listed some of the important details below.
· STAT 251 is a 3-credit University of Idaho course. Upon successful completion of this course at Moscow High School, you will be granted 3 credits on a UI transcript.
· STAT 251 fulfills the Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science Core Curriculum requirement necessary for a Baccalaureate degree at the University of Idaho. Many other colleges and universities have similar requirements.
· The academic requirements for the high school course and STAT 251 are the same.
· To take STAT 251 for university credit, you will need to complete an Application and Registration for High School Credit form, which admits you as a non-degree seeking student to the University of Idaho. The form is available on the Dual Credit website, located at www.dualcredit@uidaho.edu or in the MHS counselor’s office.
· Successful completion of the first semester of the high school class is a pre-requisite for enrollment in STAT 251 in the spring.
· At the beginning of spring semester, you will register for the university portion of the class (details to be announced) and credit will be awarded at the end of the semester upon successful completion. Your grade for UI STAT 251 will be the same as your second semester grade for MHS Statistics.
· Credit earned for this course (STAT 251) is currently transferable to any Idaho college or university. If you are planning to attend an out-of-state college or university, you should check with that institution about transferability of credit. Many schools give credit but there is no guarantee.
· Currently, the State of Idaho is providing money to students for dual credit classes. The financial details seem to change every year so check the UI link above or talk to Mr. Brandt for details. Dual Credit classes are currently (2016-2017) billed at $65 per credit hour, so STAT 251 would cost $195 (these fees are subject to change).
