General Class Information
SUPPLIES:
A bound composition book OR Spiral Binder plus a folder for handouts
PENCILS (please do NOT use a pen.)
Your own calculator. It should have the following function buttons: xy, ex, lnx, log and the trig functions sin, cos and tan. The MHS Math Dept. generally recommends that students purchase a Texas Instruments TI-Nspire graphing calculator but it is not necessary for this course.
Please note, due to the nature of some of the topics in Geometry, use of graphing calculators may NOT be allowed on certain tests and quizzes!
EXPECTATIONS:
Be on time for every class. You should be ready to start when the bell rings and class does not end until the final bell rings.
Be prepared for every class by bringing your text, supplies, finished homework and your brain!
Be respectful to yourself and to others in the classroom. Please do not disrupt the class or intimidate, put down or make fun of others.
No food, drinks (other than water), toys, sunglasses, hats or hoods.
No electronic devices (other than calculators) may be used at any time per school policy.
Scratch paper will be provided. Please do not write on the desks.
HOMEWORK AND ASSIGNMENTS:
All assignments are due the next class day unless prior arrangements are made.
“Unannounced” quizzes may be used to assess progress in lieu of grading homework.
Completed homework and quizzes will be collected in your portfolio. The portfolio will be turned in at the beginning of each week.
CONCEPT QUIZZES:
Unless otherwise arranged, it is expected that all quizzes will be completed during the class period.
ABSENCES:
Students are responsible for determining what was missed during an absence. Assignments will be posted on the board for the week and at other places such as this website, as available. Notes are to be copied from a classmate.
Normally, missed quizzes do not need to be made up since concepts will be covered on about 4 different quizzes. If needed, alternate arrangements may be made with Mr. Brandt.
GRADES:
A = 100-90% B = 89-80% C = 79-70% D = 69-60% F = 59-0%
Concept Quizzes: ~80% of total grade
Weekly Homework Portfolio: ~20% of total grade
