Grading Policy
GRADING POLICY
CONCEPT MASTERY ~ 80%
I am using Concept-based grading in Geometry. This means that students are graded on their level of mastery for each concept covered in Geometry.
Each concept has a maximum of 10 points.
Students will have approximately 4 attempts at a concept to master the concept.
The highest score earned for a concept is the score that will appear in PowerSchool, unless a concept has not been mastered. If a concept is not mastered, the maximum grade possible for that concept is an 8.
A student can demonstrate mastery of concept by scoring 9 or 10 on at least one of the problems for that concept AND having two scores that total at least 16 for that concept.
Once a student demonstrates mastery of a concept, the collected symbol (the green check mark) will display in PowerSchool next to the score for that concept.
PowerSchool can only show the highest score earned by a student for each concept. However, I record all scores received by a student for each concept and students have a Concept Quiz Record Sheet where they can also keep a running record of their scores.
(Further details about the Concept-based grading can be viewed by clicking on the link to the "Concept based grading intro letter" below.)
HOMEWORK PORTFOLIOS ~ 20%
Your homework portfolio will be collected at the beginning of each week. The portfolio will consist of all work you have done during the previous week. This will include all of the homework assignments and any worksheets or additional assignments. If your portfolio indicates that you have completed enough of the HW problems to become proficient, full credit for that week’s portfolio will be earned. Grading of the portfolios will be somewhat subjective. When in doubt, err on the side of doing more homework! ALWAYS SHOW YOUR WORK! No credit will be received if appropriate work is not shown.
I am usually in my room (rm. 125) by 7:45 a.m. and usually remain at school until about 4:30 or 5:00 p.m. Normally, I am available to work with students before school, during lunch and after school each day. My prep period is period 1 this year.
Should you or your parents wish to contact me, you can email me at brandtt@msd281.org or you can leave a message at MHS (882-2591) and I will return your call as soon as possible.
