Invasion of Israel by Russia

(Ezek 38:11-15) "You will say, 'I will go up against a land of unwalled villages; I will go to a peaceful people, who dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates'; {12} "to take plunder and to take booty, to stretch out your hand against the waste places that are again inhabited, and against a people gathered from the nations, who have acquired livestock and goods, who dwell in the midst of the land. {13} "Sheba, Dedan, the merchants of Tarshish, and all their young lions will say to you, 'Have you come to take plunder? Have you gathered your army to take booty, to carry away silver and gold, to take away livestock and goods, to take great plunder?'" ' {14} "Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say to Gog, 'Thus says the Lord GOD: "On that day when My people Israel dwell safely, will you not know it? {15} "Then you will come from your place out of the far north, you and many peoples with you, all of them riding on horses, a great company and a mighty army.

Gog is the people of the land of Magog. This was the name of the people dwelling in what is now Russia.

"During the first century, the Jewish writer Josephus wrote about the origins of nations from their first inhabitants. Josephus stated that 'Magog founded those that from him were named Magogites, but who are by the Greeks called Scythians'.

The Greek historian Herodotus devoted more than half a volume to the Scythians. The Scythians were known for their ferocity in battle and the great troves of gold...The Russian archaeologists' findings provided additional evidence that the Scythians, or Magogites, roamed and ruled great areas of the Russian heartland more than 2,000 years ago."(Todays Technology in Bible Prophecy, Charles Miller, p115)

"Magog-his descendants are the Scythians or Tartars, whose descendants today are found in modern Russia. Scythians were called Magogites by the Greeks 2,000 years ago" (Josephus, book one, chapter seven)

"Russia will invade Israel from the "north" in the latter years (Ezekiel 38:15,16) when the Jews are in their own land. Students of the Bible have always expected this to happen. The key names in Ezekiel's prophecy are first mentioned in Genesis 10 as sons of Japeth, the son of Noah. They are Gomer, Magog, Tubal, and Meshech (Genesis 10:1,2) These key verses describe the re-population of the earth after the flood. It was customary in ancient times for the descendants of a man to adopt his name for their tribe.

Rosh-the word "chief" in Ezekiel 38:3 is 'Rosh' in Hebrew. 'Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the Rosh prince of Meshech and Tubal.' 'Rosh' was the name of the tribe dwelling in the area of the Volga and it is the word for 'Russia' today in some languages of the world."(Your Future, Jack VanImpe, p115)

The first of many specific disasters occurs shortly after the broken peace treaty. It is revealed by an invasion of Israel by Russia. It is not known whether the treaty is broken because of the imminent invasion, or if there is an invasion because of the broken treaty. However, Russia will definitely invade Israel.

In Ezekiel's day, it was unthinkable to have an unwalled, defenseless city especially in this region of the world. Today, there are few walled cities in the world. Jerusalem is not one of them.
