Christian Church not Aware Christ's Return until It Happens

Many Christians in today's church believe in their hearts that they would certainly have recognized that Jesus was the Son of God when He came the first time some 2000 years ago. But today, there are just as many if not more signs of His second coming as there were before He came the first time. How is it possible that so few Christians realize He is about to return?! Just as a thief surprises the home owner, 1 Thessalonians tells us that Jesus will surprise today's Church.

(1 Th 5:2) For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night.
