115 YEARS AGO THIS MONTH

26 June 1911-birth of GEORGE HENSON (above), a key player for the Eagles when they restarted after  World War 2 as captain and centre half with 77 appearances. Before the War he had been mainly a centre forward with Wolves, Swansea, Bradford Park Avenue and Sheffield United. 

105 YEARS AGO THIS MONTH

11 June 1921-birth of DOUG FARQUHAR, (above top) an important member of the famous 1955/6 FA Cup run that ended in an honourable replay defeat by Arsenal. A strong wing half formerly with Arsenal, Reading and Hereford, he made 117 appearances before emigrating in 1957 to the USA, for whom he won an international cap against England.
