105 YEARS AGO THIS WEEK

24 September 1921-the Eagles meet Fletton United at the Eyrie in a bad tempered FA Cup tie.  Their centre half Syd Collins was sent off just before half time for dísputing a decision, and the game was held up for five minutes . The local paper thought the incident was "a  warning to players to keep their tongues still on the field...this incident would have been passed over by nine out of ten referees, but this referee happened to be the tenth". The ten men held out for a 1-1 draw but lost the replay 2-0 after extra time.
