Questions: Give you a framework for the answer

The way we ask questions gives us a framework for the answer.

If someone asks us to describe an event they would like to know the facts:

    • Where it happened

    • When it happened

    • Who was involved

    • What happened

Sometimes you have more facts that can help explain:

    • How

For example:

  • How often did it happen?

  • How did they get there?

If you have even more understanding you can also answer:

  • Why

For example:

  • If you see a stranger rushing by on your way to school you can answer Where, When, Who, What and How about what you saw but you don't know Why they are rushing by.

  • However if you see a friend you know well rushing by on your way to school you might be able to explain Why they were rushing....
