These ruins are on top of a hill, three sides drop off steeply while the fourth is more accessible.
There is evidence of earthworks, especially on the eastern side which is steeply stepped down into the valley below.

Historical facts
After Akiie Kitabatake's death in battle, his younger brother Akinobu Mutsusuke became Naval Base General and took charge of the national and military administrations under Emperor Godaigo's grandson, Imperial Prince Morinaga. On the 17th of the same month, the Imperial Prince Morinaga and Akinobu Kitabatake fled and were sent to Oonami Castle via Misawa Castle in Katta County (Shiroishi City, Miyagi Prefecture).
