Due has several meanings in English.

Here are the two most commonly heard uses

In relation to time

In place of “because of”:

    • Due to the hot weather on the weekend we went to the beach.

    • The parade was cancelled due to the heavy rain.

At other times you may also hear “due” used to describe:

A fee you pay to an organisation you belong to:

    • She paid her Pony Club dues

A precise navigation instruction:

    • Head due North and you will reach the waterfall (you have to go exactly North or you might miss the waterfall).

Something that deserves recognition:

      • His hard work meant that he was due for a salary increase.

      • To give her her due she was always ready to help with the washing up.
