Colours: what we see and how we feel

Post date: Oct 03, 2018 9:33:1 AM

Colour or color: this is one of those words in English that can be spelt in two ways, both are right.

Most of us see the world in colour, adding even more to our sense of sight and enhancing the beauty of the world we live in...

We take the clear blue skies, the red roses, green grassy playing fields for granted....

But some people are colour blind, unable to clearly identify the full range of colours most of us are lucky enough to enjoy.

And many animals with better eyesight than humans, like cats and dog, see the world mainly in shades of gray....

Colours are able to evoke strong memories.....and certain colours are associated with particular situations.

We also use colours to describe our moods....

Discuss:

    • What is your favourite colour? Why?

    • Which colours do you like to wear? Why?

    • Which colours do you never wear? Why?

    • Close your eyes and think of the colour blue. What images does the colour evoke?

    • Close your eyes and think of the colour green. What images does the colour evoke?

    • Close your eyes and think of the colours red, yellow and green. What images do the colours evoke?

In your first language do you use colours to describe how you feel? In English there are several colours associated with emotions.

    • What emotions do you associate with the colour blue?

    • What emotions do you associate with the colour green?

    • What emotions do you associate with the colour red?

After thought:

    • We also use colour to describe our skin and the the skin of others.......is this always a positive use of colour?
