Creation Phase: Pre-Production
Treatment
Purpose
The treatment outlines the plot of the video production as well as established the time and setting. It introduces the protagonist(s) and antagonist(s). It also outlines the conclusion of the production. The treatment may also contain responsibility assignments for team members and sometimes prop lists.
Structure
The treatment is usually a few short paragraphs but depending on the complexity of the story could span several pages.
Script
Purpose
The script establishes the exact language used by each character in the production as well as outlines some character movements.

Storyboard
Purpose
The storyboard breaks the production down into individual shots. It often documents the action, type of shoot, the setting, the audio, special effects, approximate duration, etc.

Mapping
Purpose
The mapping shows character and camera position and movement for each shoot in the production.
Structure
It is a topographical view of the set used for the production. Symbols are used to identify characters and the camera.
