Ethics and Laws

These definitions were established by our class.

Ethics

    • Ethics are our personal rules of right and wrong that are based on and change with our experiences.

Laws

    • Laws are rules that society agrees that everyone should abide by within a specific geographical area. Violating laws can result in penalties and / or rehabilitation.

Public Domain

    • Creative content that is free for the public and not protected by any copyright law once a specific time period is reached or the copyright expires.

Copyright

    • The creator/owner has exclusive rights to reproduce, sell, publish or distribute an art form

    • You must get the owner's permission to use their work

Copyleft

    • Allows the owner of work to distribute their work without the restrictions of copyright.

    • The owner of the work sets rules for what people can do with their work..

    • is mostly used by artists.

Creative Commons

    • A collection of licenses, specifying different usage rights, that can be applied to works, requiring, at minimum, the creator to be acknowledged in the work's usage. It is more strict in usage rights than public domain, but less strict than a copyright, allowing free public useage in all cases.
