Explain, use, maintain, and develop systems to organize and retrieve recorded knowledge
Implementing what I learned both in class about web design concepts and at work as an OCLC (Online Computer Library Center) student intern about the fundamentals of making primary source material discoverable online, I helped a team at OCLC create a new system for ArchiveGrid. Based on an already-existing database of archival descriptions by the same name, I helped organize contributor records in a WordPress blog and design and create content for the website where users can browse and search for descriptions of what archives at academic, public, and private institutions worldwide contain.
By keeping a broad base of users in mind for the easiest access possible to archival materials, I learned what 21st century knowledge and information organization will have to look like in order to connect more people to quality information sources capable of improving people's intellectual lives.
