Explain and implement the development, maintenance, and management of collections and resources to meet specific information needs
By studying the foundations of collection development, I learned about the role professionals involved in collection development play in the handling of information, from creation to destruction, and how that information and a community of users interact. I learned specifically about end-of-life issues related to information by examining how libraries in North America handle weeded items. In this research report, I elaborated on alternative uses and environmentally-friendly disposal options for weeded items. Digesting what I learned about collection development and management in the 21st century, I proposed how responsible weeding practices are important in the future of collection management, as well as creating new uses for aging and antiquated information sources.
