Articulate a philosophy of ethical and client-centered information services for the library and information professions
Knowing about the information transfer cycle (ITC) means understanding the creation, organization, dissemination, diffusion, utilization, preservation, and destruction of information. As I learned the philosophy, principles, and standards of library and information professions, I started to understand the relationship between the ITC and bigger-picture things, like social shifts and changes, modern issues and trends, and ethical decision-making.
In order to understand how technology has changed the ITC, I participated in a group project about the ITC in law enforcement. We used interviews, ride-alongs, and research to learn about the impact of new database and communication technology in the criminal justice field and how those professionals can better protect the public. We presented our project to our class and and articulated how we think library and information professionals can aid in the creation of specialized services for industries outside the profession.
