Exhibit ethical behavior, knowledge, and attitudes.
A summer field trip to Kiev and Lviv, Ukraine, to tour libraries for studies in post-Soviet libraries taught me how to exhibit ethical behavior, knowledge, and attitudes abroad in a library and information science career. Ambassadorship was required of me and the group I traveled with. As a result, I learned that connections and learning opportunities with librarians can be formed despite language barriers and cultural differences. The importance of flexibility and sensitivity to people and cultures other than my own took a new meaning while I was there in the care of other people as a guest in their country. I gained knowledge of what it means to maintain integrity under pressure and in strange environments, and how to fortify that integrity when I travel abroad again as a library and information professional.
