FAMILY OF WILLIAM R. REMY, SON OF DANIEL REMY (1172)

11721 WILLIAM R. REMY,b.in 1759 inAbingdon, Washington Co.,Va., then called Wolfs Hills. He m.Eleanor Harrison, a sister of William Henry Harrison,who became President of the United States. President William Henry Harrison was b. Feb. 9, 1773 at Berkley, Charles City Co.,Va., son of Benjamin Harrison, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, b. 1740, d. 1791. William Henry Harrison was elected 9th President of the U.S.A. in 1840 and d. April 4, 1841. Eleanor Remy was another child of Henjamin Harrison and his wife Elizabeth (Basset) Harrison who was b. Dec. 13, 1730 and d. in 1784. William R. Remy moved from Abingdon, Va. to Paintsville, Johnson Co.,Ky. abt. 1820-4 and became a prominent man there. He moved to Elkhorn City, Pike Co.,Ky. in 1828 and built a dwelling house at the mouth of Elkhorn Creek. This building was the beginning of Elkhorn City, and to build it he had to erect his own blacksmith shop and make the nails to build the house. He was a Surveyor and laid claim to large tracts of land with coal, timber, oil and gas at Elkhorn City and thereabouts. At the time of his death his estate comprised some 15-20000 acres of land, but after his death his descendents let most of this slip through their fingers. After his wifefs death his granddau. Lurinda, dau. of his son Moses kept house for him. He d. in 1864 and is buried in Elkhorn City cemetery, his headstone being a homemade rock without inscription. The Post Office of Elkhorn City is Praise, Ky.

The Last Will and Testament of William Remy of Floyd Co KY (now Johnson)This will is a drawer at the Floyd Co Ky Courthouse, as it is too big to fit in any book......I don't know where, in 1816, they got a piece of paper that big! This will is dated 28 Apr 1816, and was proved Dec 1816:

IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN; WHEREAS I, WILLIAM REMY, of the County of Floyd, State of Kentucky.......First, I lend to my wife, Eleanor Remy, my plantation for her natural life and at her death I leave it to be divided amongst seven of my children now living in Floyd Co KY, Viz., JOHN REMY, JAMES REMY, WILLIAM REMY, DANIEL REMY, DORCAS JAYNE, CATHERINE WHEELER, JEMIMA AUXIER. To my daughter ELEANOR ROLAND $10 cash and to my daughter MARY UNDERWOOD, living in Virginia $10 cash.......To STEPHEN WHEELER, for schooling of his son, WILLIAM REMY WHEELER, and his brothers........To JOHN REMY fo schooling of his son, WILLIAM REMY, and for his grandson, THADEUS REMY......To WILLIAM REMY for schooling of his son WILLIAM REMY,two years and for the schooling of one of the sons of JOHN AUXIER....
