Base: Naturns, Italy.

A long day ... hiking three legs of the Meraner Hohenweg, also called the Alta Via di Merano in the Texelgruppe (Gruppo di Tessa).

9am: take the cable car from town up to Unterstollhof (1282m).

• Hike primary hohenweg (high trail) #24 clockwise
• Katharinaberg (1245m) winding in and out of deeply cut valleys.

1:30pm: arrive at Vorderkaser (Casera di Fuori) (1693m). 7.5 miles to this point (and lunch)

2:50pm: arrive Eishof Maso Gelato (2071m) gradually ascending the valley up to the pass. 11.4 miles

• traverse a ton of switchbacks up to the Stettiner Hutte (2875m/9430 ft)
• this is also called Rif Petrarca.
• Nice accommodations. Our room had 6 bunk beds, and full up with climbers/hikers.
  • Lights out by 9pm (everyone is pretty tired, and breakfast is at 7am).
