Higher elevations possible thunderstorms, so do a castle day to Ehrenberg and Fussen/Hohenschwangau.

Castle #1: Ehrenberg ruins (Austria)

• Parked car in Ehenbichl (near Reutte) and hiked through fields to base trail that leads up the lower castle walls. Can imagine trying to launch an attack from below.
• Three outer walls were built from the 1290's to 1632 (as artillery became improved).

Castle #2: Neuschwanstein Castle (Austria)

• Travel to Fussen (Germany, 20 minute drive).
• Walk 2 miles to Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein Castle (crazy King Ludwig II).
• Hiked up to Marienbrücke bridge for some great views of the castle and valley.
