Middle School Second Step

The Middle School Second Step Program expands on what the students learned during the Elementary program. It is a research-based Social-Emotional Learning Program that will help our students grow in all areas of their lives.

The program is broken down into four units

  • Unit 1: Mindsets and Goals

    • Students will learn about why a growth mindset is so important and also how to develop goals structured as If-Then plans.

  • Unit 2: Values and Relationships

    • Students will reflect on their values and then apply them in decision-making lessons and friendship/relationship lessons.

  • Unit 3: Thoughts, Emotions, and Decisions

    • Students will learn about the relationship between thoughts, emotions, and decisions. They will also continue to learn calming strategies when they are experiencing strong emotions.

  • Unit 4: Serious Peer Conflicts

    • Students will learn skills to help them identify, avoid, and resolve serious conflicts. Within these lessons they will also learn to prevent bullying and harassment.

The Middle School Second Step program has many additional activities to support student development.

  • Advisory Activities to extend and reinforce the concepts learned during formal lesson, build community, and foster positive staff and student relationships.
