Cantilever Truss

Students learn how to calculate internal forces of trussed structures, which occur in wide ranges of engineering contexts.
They do this using 'method of joints', and examining each joint (A,B,C,D...) of the structure one by one.
Additionally they will investigate the theory of 'superposition of forces'.
To gather empirical data (to compare with theory), students apply loads to a truss structure, where each member is fitted with a strain-gauge which measures the internal forces and displays them digitally.
This data allows students to easily check their calculations. They do this for various load positions.
Students also validate the principle of superposition, by graphically plotting results from different load cases.
