Schottky Diode

This lab gives students specialised hands-on experience in a teaching Cleanroom.

They fabricate and assess a Schottky Diode, which is a key component in electronics.

Students use a piece of semiconductor material (n-type GaAs) to precision-form the necessary patterning onto the sample using  'writing'/'etching'.

Along the way they carry out the various parts of complex fabrication process carried out in industry, including photolithography.

After fabrication students then conduct some assessments of their product to ensure correct functioning of its electrical properties.
