student services information desk (SSID)

SSiD is a 'one-stop shop' student information service that can answer the majority of your questions. They can offer guidance on issues such as exams, changing course, extenuating circumstances, and provide a range of administrative services including UCards, Transcripts, Bank Letters, Student Status Documents and Council Tax Exemption Letters.

If they can’t answer your question, they’ll refer you to the relevant service or department who can. You can also browse their web pages for information, support and guidance on all aspects of University life.

Student Mental Health, Counselling and Therapies Service

This is a free and entirely confidential service. If you need mental health support during your studies, you can register online and book an initial 'triage' appointment. They will consider your suitability for one-to-one counseling with the University Counselling Service, as well as a wide range of other available interventions.

Mental Health Support

The University Counselling Service offers a range of online support sessions on a regular basis, including regular sessions delivered in conjunction with the NHS (IAPT).

As a student, you have free international access to Togetherall, an online mental health community providing 24/7 support from peers and trained counsellors.

University of Sheffield students going through a tough time can now access free online support with Big White Wall. Whether you’re struggling to sleep, feeling low, stressed or not coping, Big White Wall can help you get support, take control and feel better.

The Student Welfare Team team can provide you with support if you experience personal difficulties that are significantly impacting your University experience and ability to study. They offer support to both traditional and non-traditional students on a range of issues, including: Mentoring, Crime victims, Bereavement, Sexual violence, Serious ill health, Missing students, Harassment and bullying, Housing/relationship issues, Forced marriage and honour violence.

NIGHTLINE

Nightline is a telephone listening service run by trained student volunteers. They are anonymous, confidential, non-directive, non-judgemental, and are always happy to listen.

DISABILITY & DYSLEXIA SUPPORT SERVICE (DDSS)

If you have a disability, medical condition, or specific learning difficulty we strongly encourage you to contact the DDSS. The DDSS is a confidential service which offers a range of support, including:

  • Liaising with academic departments regarding students' support needs

  • Helping students to apply for Disabled Students' Allowance

  • Organising support workers (e.g. note takers, readers, scribes)

  • Advising on specialist equipment and technology

  • Referring dyslexic students for study skills support

  • Referring potential dyslexic students for diagnostic assessment

  • Formalising alternative arrangements for examinations and assessments (e.g. extra exam time)

The Student Advice Centre is a free Students' Union service providing advice and information to all students, independent of the University of Sheffield. It is staffed by a team of professional and experienced advisers and covers all main areas of concern to students: money, housing, academia, and immigration.

University health service (UHS)

The University Health Service is a National Health Service GP practice for students and their families. You can register with UHS during your course registration or anytime via the link.

If you’re unable to book an appointment and have urgent clinical needs, please phone the UHS reception team who can put you in contact with a Nurse Practitioner.
