Alongside your academic studies, it's important to start thinking about your career goals early on in your degree. Whether you want to go onto further study, a career in a specific engineering field, or something completely different, there is lots of support available to help you get there. If you're not sure what you want to do, we can help you decide.
Our academic and support staff work closely with the Careers Service and Engineering Employability Team to deliver a comprehensive programme of tailored careers support in each year of study. This includes:

Personalised diagnostic careers sessions in your final year
Advice on how to succeed in interviews and assessment centres
Opportunities to meet recent graduates and find out about their path to success
Engineering-specific recruitment fairs

These one-off events are a fantastic opportunity to explore your career options and meet directly with employers. New events will be added throughout the year.

The Faculty of Engineering has a dedicated Year in Industry team who work alongside Schools and the Careers Service to provide advice and support for all students on the year in industry programme.
If you're interested in undertaking a summer or year-long placement as part of the Year in Industry course, this dedicated team is here to help. They offer a range of services, including help with finding your placement.

This online portal managed by The Careers Service allows you to look up workplace opportunties such as internships, placements and part-time roles. There's also a detailed roster of careers events which includes recruitment fairs and networking opportunities. Regularly updated and you key link with enhancing your employability.

The Sheffield Graduate Attributes (SGAs) are attributes often required in the workplace, as identified by employers and the university community. As a student at The University of Sheffield, you will have many opportunities to develop your personal attributes and skills through your academic studies, work experiences, and extracurricular activities.
The place for you to track you skills development, and log your univeristy experiences. Using mySkills will help you prepare for job applications and interviews by keeping track of what you've achieved and giving you a space to reflect.
HEAR is a recognised degree transcript that the University gives to all undergraduates to provide you with a comprehensive record of your University learning and experience. If you started your studies before September 2021 this will contain both academic and extra-curricular achievements. If you started your studies after September 2021 it will contain details of your academic achievements; your extra-curricular activities and experiences should be recorded in your mySkills portfolio.
You can view your HEAR electronically via My Services in MUSE. It can be a useful tool to help you review your progress and plan what you want to achieve during your time here, for example, with your personal tutor or a Careers Advisor.
