On 28th January 2026, our students took part in the prestigious Intermediate UK Maths Challenge, a national competition that celebrates problem-solving, resilience, and mathematical thinking. Students approached the challenge with enthusiasm and determination, engaging with a range of complex and thought-provoking questions.
We are pleased to recognise the strong efforts shown this year, particularly by Aarush and Cyrus, both Year 9 students, who performed exceptionally well and achieved results above most Year 9 and year 10 students in the competition.
Their success reflects their hard work, perseverance, and commitment to developing their mathematical skills. We are proud of all students who took part and look forward to building on this experience in future challenges.
Year 11 in Mathematics
We continue to provide focused support to help Year 11 students achieve a grade 4 or higher in their GCSE Maths.
Targeted intervention sessions take place every Monday after school, with additional Wednesday sessions for invited students. These sessions are available across three different groups, each led by one of our dedicated teachers: Mrs. Ramic in MD2.02 (Higher), Mr. Buraimoh in MD2.01 (Higher), and Mr. Hutchful in MD2.06 (Foundation). This extra revision time is designed to give students additional opportunities to reinforce their understanding, ask questions, and receive targeted support to help them achieve their best possible results.
As part of our Year 11 students' preparation for their upcoming GCSE Maths exams, we are encouraging them to use Sparx Maths for targeted revision. Based on the Personalised Learning Checklists (PLCs) from their recent mock exams, Sparx Maths allows students to focus on the specific areas where they still have knowledge gaps. By working through the tailored exercises on Sparx, students can reinforce their understanding and improve their skills ahead of the real exams. The GCSE Maths exams are fast approaching, with Paper 1 (Non-Calculator) on Thursday 14th May, Paper 2 (Calculator) on Wednesday 3rd June and Paper 3 (Calculator) on Wednesday 10th June, so now is the perfect time to start using Sparx to ensure they are fully prepared. All parents and carers have now received Personalised Learning Checklists (PLCs), outlining students’ strengths and areas for development. Alongside this, students have been shown how to use Sparx Maths codes to complete targeted independent practice and close these gaps effectively.
We will also begin Walking Talking Mocks after the Easter holidays, giving students the opportunity to practise exam-style questions with guided support, focusing on exam technique and confidence building. During these sessions, students will work through past exam papers under the guidance of their teachers, who provide valuable insight into exam techniques, common mistakes, and effective time management strategies. Many students have found these sessions to be incredibly useful, as they give them a real sense of what to expect on the day of the exam and help build their confidence. The Walking Talking Mocks are an excellent way for students to refine their skills and approach exam questions in a supportive environment.
In addition, Saturday revision sessions will be running, with one session scheduled before each exam paper to support final preparation.
We encourage all students to engage fully with these opportunities to ensure they are well prepared and confident going into their exams.
Up Learn for A Level Mathematics
We are excited to share that all of our Year 12 and Year 13 A-Level Mathematics students now have full subscriptions to UpLearn! This fantastic resource provides interactive lessons, personalized quizzes, and targeted revision materials, helping students master complex topics more efficiently. By giving our students access to UpLearn, we’re ensuring they have the tools to deepen their understanding, boost confidence, and achieve their best possible results in Mathematics.
Mathematics Homework Club
We are delighted to continue our weekly Maths Homework Club, open to all year groups, held on Tuesdays after school and Wednesdays at lunchtime at the following times:
