As part of National Apprenticeship Week, we invited CXK to come and speak to Year 12 about what apprenticeships are, how to search and apply for them and the sort of qualities and skills employers are looking for. All our students created an account with Gov.uk which is the leading site for applying for opportunities. It was a really insightful session and we are grateful to CXK for their time.
As part of our commitment to showing our Post 16 students all the opportunities that are available to them once they have left school, Miss Grant arranged a visit to the Brighton Amex Stadium for the annual Univesrity and Apprenticeship Event. With a range of red brick, Russell Group and modern universities, as well as apprenticeship providers, students got a real insight into just how much is on offer to them in the future.
A huge well done to Year 13 who have successfully navigated their final round of mock examinations, before the real exams start in April! It won't be long until your final days of school are here - keep working hard and we know you will all achieve a fantastic set of results in the summer series. We hope you all found the Exam Stress workshop helpful. More advice can be found here: sway.cloud.microsoft/KAG13aCI2bvynkZe?ref=email
We were absolutely delighted to be asked to host the 5th Annual North Kent Apprenticeship Event on 12th February. Open to students in years 9 - 13, over 600 students visited the event, as well as an additional 400 external guests in the evening. We are lucky enough to work closely with Lara from the Ebsfleet Development Corporation and she has come in to work with our students on numerous occasions. Along with The Education People and Kent and Medway Careers Hub, over 25 local employers and apprenticeship providers joined the event to showcase the opportunities they have on offer and get SGLA students thinking about their future careers.
Every year we facilitate the Kent County Council Young Drivers Programme, which is run via the tutor time programme and then culminates with a visit from a member of KCCs Young Drivers Team. These really informative sessions take a deeper look into what it means to be a safe driver and passenger, as well as getting young people to consider the implications and costs of driving and maintaining a vehicle.

Every module we host a 'Huddle' event, where Attenborough students are invited to take part in an extra curricular activity. Module 3 saw a very enthusiastic group come and play badminton (things got a bit competetive!). In module 4 Miss Grant hosted a quiz, which saw teams of students pit their wits against one another. We have more events planned for modules 5&6, and if you have any suggestions for activities, please let Miss Grant know.
